Serial numbers as low as 50,000 are still floating around. 83 rows As serial numbers should be, they gave each lens its own serial number, and counted up.
The lens has a metal hood built in, which I find genius and really well constructed. My copy of the Summicron-R 90mm f/2 has the serial number 3128744, which tells me (looking it up in this database) that the lens was manufactured in 1981. As you might have gathered, I’m a big admirer of Walter Mandler, ever since I bought the Elmarit-R 135mm f/2.8. I can't find an exact comparison, though some conflicting reports. The price is about the same (which is a good deal for the Leica). I have an opportunity to get a LEICA SUMMICRON-M 50mm f/2 v.4 which is supposed to have extraordinary sharpness and quality, but am concerned about it's performance on an A7RII, esp.
